Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve retrieval efficiency, by providing a knowledge base memory device in which knowledge representing relation between occupation classification in a data base and an occupation appearing in an inquiry text and the knowledge of a product that is the job object of the occupation are stored. CONSTITUTION:A controller 2 performs the morpheme and syntax analysis of an inputted inquiry text via an input/output device 1 by using a word dictionary memory device 4, and when occupation name information is included in the inquiry text, converts the name of the occupation to that of corresponding occupation classification by using the knowledge of the occupation classification in the knowledge base memory device 5, and it is used in the retrieval of the data base 3. Meanwhile, when the product and a verb are included in the inquiry text, an occupation classification name is inferred by using product knowledge and occupation knowledge in the knowledge base memory device 5, and it is utilized in the retrieval of the data base 3. In such a way, it is possible to estimate the occupation classification name by expressing a communication purpose by the occupation name or the product and the verb, etc., even when an inquirer is ignorant of the occupation classification registered in the data base, thereby, the retrieval efficiency can be improved.
