This crystal has the electron donative hydroxyl group and the electron attracting nitro group and since the electron transfer in the molecules in the excited state progresses smoothly, the crystal has a large nonlinear optical constant beta. The nonlinear optical element having the large nonlinear optical effect is thereby obtd. In addition, the element which has no max. absorption in a visible light region is obtd.
