Abstract
PURPOSE:To carry out hydroformylation at a low rhodium concentration and high reaction speed, by reacting a styrene derivative with a mixed gas of H2 and CO using a catalyst system consisting of a rhodium compound and specific tris(substituted aryl)phosphite. CONSTITUTION:A styrene derivative expressed by formula I (A is aromatic hydrocarbon; B is H or methyl) is reacted with a mixed gas of hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a rhodium compound (especially preferably having 0.005-0.1mg atom/l in terms of rhodium atom per 1l reaction mixed liquid) and tris(substituted aryl)phosphite [e.g. tris(2-tert.-butylphenyl)phosphite] expressed by formula II (R is substituted aryl) and having 2,080-2,090/cm electric parameter and 135-190 deg. steric parameter to provide the alpha configuration or beta configuration of styrene derivative for perfume, medicine intermediate, etc., in good yield.
