Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high scanning accuracy by detecting the speed of main scanning and using it as a reference input for subscanning control so as to eliminate need for expensive and high accurate servo motor and servo amplifier for the main scanning and subscanning control system and even when a conventional motor is used. CONSTITUTION:An external clock of a subscanning control section 108 is switched to a main scanning rotary signal 1-d being the output of a rotary encoder 102 only during the picture drawing (scanning) period to control a pulse motor 105. The speed of the subscanning is controlled in response to the speed of the main scanning to make the drawn picture width constant. In the subscanning control during a period when no picture is drawn, since the pulse motor is controlled by using an output pulse 1-e from the reference clock generator 110, the various control such as low speed movement, high speed acceleration/deceleration movement, movement of designated quantity or return are realized easily and the picture scanner having a high scanning accuracy is obtained without needing highly accurate drive control.
