Abstract

PURPOSE: To display in particular an effective trapezoidal shape with a thin optical system by expanding and projecting a display picture by a swing optical system so that it is displayed as the trapezoidal shape. CONSTITUTION: Light emitted from a light source 1 irradiates a liquid crystal light valve 2. The light valve 2 modulates transmitted light of the light by an electric signal. A projection lens 3 forms an image of the light valve 2 on a screen 4 through a mirror 5. Consequently, the mirror 5 is used to turn the light, thereby realizing the thin optical system. Since the image formed on the screen 4 is a matrix image of the light valve 2 where liquid crystal is charged between transparent electrodes which are preliminarily constituted so as to be orthogonal to rasters in the column direction, it is displayed like a trapezoidal shape as a kind of a linear perspective with the coarse pitch in the front (lower part) and a dense pitch in the depth (upper part) with respect to the electrode pitch in the raster direction and the picture element pitch in the column direction.
