Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a composite material having excellent glassy surface gloss and excellent strength, by molding a mixed powder of glass containing SiO2, CaO, Na2O+K2O and MgO and having specific particle size with crystalline high-melting oxide having specific particle size and then sintering. CONSTITUTION:Powder which contains 65-80wt.% SiO2, 5-15wt.% CaO, 10-30wt.% Na2O+K2O and 2-8wt.% MgO and has a particle size constitution comprising >=90wt.% particles with <=200 meshes is blended with powder of crystalline high-melting oxide having a particle size constitution comprising >=90wt.% particles with <=200 meshes to give mixed powder. Then the powder is molded, then heat-treated and sintered or sintered and crystallized. The glass powder and the oxide powder used are both fine powder, so that sintering is started and advanced at a low temperature approximately a little higher than softening point of the powdered glass, component transfer to the oxide will not occur with rise of temperature and a molded article having excellent contracted and dense state is obtained.
