Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable stable use of the subject catalyst under severe conditions such as in formalin synthesis for a long period by forming a silver catalyst with silver powder or sintered silver powder obtained by application of a gas atomization method. CONSTITUTION:A silver catalyst is formed with silver power or sintered silver powder generated by application of a gas atomization method. The silver catalyst totally consists of a mixture of coarse silver powder 1 and fine silver powder 2 which are obtained by causing fine silver powder 2 having a particle size in the range of a few mum to a few dozens of mum to adhere to the surface of coarse silver powder having a diameter of more than 100mum. The adhering method is to sinter the mixture of silver powders 1, 2 at 800 deg.C in a vacuum after the mixture is obtained by mixing them at a prearranged ratio and molding the mixture. The silver catalyst thus obtained can be used stably for a long time even under severe conditions such as in formalin synthesizing.
