Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a glycoprotein free from coagulation activity to human erythrocyte and having immuno-regulating activity and a specific molecular weight, by culturing mycelia of fungi belonging to Fomes genus, extracting the obtained mycelia with an aqueous solvent and purifying the extract. CONSTITUTION:Mycelia of fungi of Fomes genus are cultured by standing culture, shaking culture or suspension spinner culture. The obtained mycelia are extracted with an aqueous solvent and purified to obtain the objective glycoprotein. The obtained glycoprotein is free from coagulation activity to human erythrocyte and has an immuno-regulating activity and a molecular weight of 16,000-18,000 measured by SDS gel electrophoresis and 12,000-16,000 by tricine SDS gel electrophoresis. It has an isoelectric point of pH4.4-4.6 and contains about 0.3-3.0wt.% of sugars based on the protein content. The extraction with the aqueous solvent is preferably carried out at about <=80 deg.C and about pH6n8.
