Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the selectivity of the titled compound in the hydrogenation of dicarboxylic acid, dicarboxylic acid anhydride, etc., by carrying out homogeneous liquid-phase reaction in the presence of a specific catalyst having excellent stability of the activity and usable over a long period without lowering the conversion. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is produced by hydrogenating a dicarboxylic acid, a dicarboxylic acid anhydride and/or a dicarboxylic acid ester in the presence of a ruthenium-based catalyst containing (1) ruthenium, (2) an organic phosphine, (3) a conjugated base of an acid having a pKa of <2 [e.g. Brphinstedt acid such as inorganic acids (e.g. nitric acid or fluorosulfonic acid) or organic acids (e.g. trichloroacetic acid or sulfonated styrene- divinylbenzene copolymer)] and preferably (4) a neutral ligand. The reaction temperature is 50-250 deg.C, preferably 100-200 deg.C.
