Abstract

PURPOSE: To install a shuttle assembly within a printer without the need for highly skilled personnel having special tooling by mounting on a dot matrix line printer, an interchangeable shuttle assembly including the associated elements which need to be accurately adjusted relative to a hammerbank. CONSTITUTION: A shuttle assembly 10 is mounted on a basic support material 14 fitted to a frame within a printer cabinet. A cam drive mechanism 18 for reciprocating an elongated hammerbank is of conventional type. The elongated hammerbank is reciprocated relative to a shuttle base 12 by rotating a cam 22 coupled with the driven cam assembly on the end of the elongated hammerbank. A counterbalance 24 coupled with the cam 22 at the opposite side of the shuttle assembly 10 keeps the balance with the hammerbank in reciprocating motion and undergoes reciprocating motion contrary to the elongated hammerbank for the shuttle assembly 10.
