Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the generation time of a reduced pattern for retrieval by generating a reduced pattern for retrieval from a partial pattern at an optional position and an optional size around a noticed point in the pattern while monitoring a fetched pattern at the recording of a high definition still picture signal and recording the result onto other track than the recording track for the entire pattern. CONSTITUTION:At first a high definition still picture signal to be recorded as a picture data is fetched in a buffer memory 2 and the data such as a picture frame address or the like of a partial pattern being an object of trimming is fetched in a reduced data input circuit 4 via an input device such as a mouse while referencing a monitor picture displayed on a monitor display device 8. Then an arithmetic circuit 5 obtains the reduction rate and the reduced position based on the data fetched in the input circuit 4 and an address selecting the picture element is generated by a control circuit 7 by generating a reduced pattern and the result is fed to a reduced pattern generating circuit 3. The reduced pattern generated by the reduced pattern generating circuit 3 is controlled by the control circuit 7 and led to the recording/reproducing circuit 9 via a switch turned to the position of the circuit 3 and written on other track than the track recorded with the entire pattern of the disk 10.
