Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a high-quality optical element with good workability by detaining a carrier member by collars from the upper and lower parts, and press-forming a glass material by the upper and lower dies while isolating the glass material from the carrier member. CONSTITUTION:The glass material 15 held by the carrier member 16 is heated and softened by a furnace 19, and then carried into a specified position in a sleeve 10. The lower die 12 is then raised, and the carrier member 15 is detained from the upper and lower parts by the lower-die collar 18 fixed to the lower die 12 through an elastic member 14 and the upper-die collar 17 fixed to the upper die 11 through an elastic member 13. Under such conditions, the lower die 12 is further raised to push up the glass material 15 by the forming surface 12a of a forming part 12b, and the glass material 15 is isolated from the carrier member 16. The glass material 15 is then press-formed between the forming surface 12a and the forming surface 11a of the upper die 11. By this method, the glass lens having a specified shape is formed without sticking the lens to the carrier member 16, and the lens is then easily taken out.
