Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce stable red phosphorus capable of inhibiting hydrolysis by depositing a titanium-aluminum condensate type conjugate hydroxide on the surfaces of red phosphorus particles to form coats. CONSTITUTION:Red phosphorus powder is added to an aq. mixed salt soln. contg. a titanium salt and a condensed aluminum salt. An alkali agent such as an aq. ammonia soln. is further added with stirring to neutralize the soln., the soln. is heated and a titanium-aluminum condensate type conjugate hydroxide as a hydrolyzate is deposited on the surface of the red phosphorus powder to form a coat. Thus, red phosphorus having superior resistance to thermal decomposition and hydrolysis is obtd. The red phosphorus is useful as a flame retardant for various synthetic resins.
