Abstract

1456242 Coated lamp envelopes THORN LIGHTING Ltd 18 Jan 1974 [19 Jan 1973] 2952/73 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions Cl and H1] A tungsten-halogen lamp has a glassy coating of a metal phosphate or arsenate on at least those portions of the internal components which tend to react with halogen. The coating may be derived from an aluminium phosphate complex or from a composition comprising aluminium phosphate and containing a titanium compound. The preferred metal phosphates and arsenates are those of metals of atomic numbers 12, 13, 14, 20-32, 39-50, 56-80, 90 and 92. By "phosphate" is meant ortho-, meta- and para-phosphates, phosphinates and phosphonates. The compositions may be applied as metal compound, an oxyacid phosphorus or arsenate, or a composition capable of forming such an oxyacid, in solution in a solvent which may be at least partly organic. The compositions yield the phosphate or arsenate on being heated. Suitable flowing compounds are oxides, hydroxides, halides, carbonates, hydrates, phosphates, perchlorates and cyanates, as well as salts of organic acid. Co-ordination complexes may also be used. The compositions preferably have atomic ratios of metal to phosphorus or arsenate of from 1:0.1 to 1:2.9. Preferred metals are aluminium, iron, chromium, titanium, vanadium and tin. [GB1456242A]
