Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve hydrophilic property of Al coated with hydrophilic silicate film and to eliminate malodor from the coated product by forming the hydrophilic silicate film on the Al surface interposing an undercoating film comprising an org. polymer, then treating the coated product with a soln. contg. polyvalent metal ions. CONSTITUTION:A film is formed on the surface of Al by applying an undercoating paint comprising an org. polymer to the Al surface after or without subjecting the surface to chemical conversion treatment. Then, a soln. for imparting hydrophilic property contg. alkali metal silicate and/or quaternary amine silicate is applied to the film to form thus a hydrophilic silicate film by heating and drying the applied soln. The hydrophilic silicate film is further treated with a soln. contg. polyvalent metal ions to impart hydrophilic property to the silicate film. Said soln. for imparting hydrophilic property comprises a material basing on water glass, i.e. alkali silicate or quaternary amine silicate, as primary component, having 1-17 molar ratio of SiO2/M2 (wherein M is Li, Na, or K).
