Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize set and reset by light pulse, by containing a saturable absorber whose absorption factor of light changes by light intensity in the resonator of a bistable semiconductor laser. CONSTITUTION:The bistable semiconductor laser 1 capable of generating an oscillation state and a non-oscillation state for a bias current with the same value, a bias means which supplies the bias current with that value to the bistable semiconductor laser 1, that is, a power source 2, a first light input means which inputs the light pulse IS with a frequency and intensity by which the bistable semiconductor laser 1 transits from the non-oscillation state to the oscillation state, namely, a set light source 3, a second light input means which inputs the light pulse IR with the frequency and the strength by which the bistable semiconductor laser transits from the oscillation state to the non- oscillation state to the bistable semiconductor laser, that is a reset light source 4, and a half mirror 5 are provided. And in the resonator of the bistable semiconductor laser 1, the saturable absorption body whose absorption factor of light changes by the light strength is contained. In such a way, it is possible to switch the 'ON' and 'OFF' of light output only by the light pulse.
