Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable a piston or the like having a non-circular section to be manufactured without using any template by displacing a piezoelectric element according to the rotational angle of a spindle to move a cutting tool radially of a workpiece for generation working. CONSTITUTION:A spindle is rotated after a workpiece W is set to the spindle. Next, a tool rest 17 is lowered to make a cutting tool 24 correspond to a workpiece W for starting generation working. During the working, the rotational angle of spindle is detected by a rotational angle detecting means 9 and a pulse signal at that time is sent to the input of a control means 25. On the other hand, the feed amount of cutting tool 24 is detected by a position detecting means 14 and a pulse signal at that time is sent to the input of control means 25. When both piezoelectric elements 18 is expansively and contractively displaced on the basis of said respective pulse signals by the voltage control of control means 25, a generating arm 20 is pivoted about a support shaft 22 to move the cutting tool 24 radially on the workpiece W.
