Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent change in the upper thread entangling position of seams owing to the thickness of a sewing thread by permitting the upper thread tension release phase of the seam by means of the elevation of a needle thread take-up to be fast as against a thin thread and to be slow as against the thick thread in accordance with the thickness of the sewing thread. CONSTITUTION: The upper thread presser of a sewing machine is provided with a vertically moved needle, a needle thread pickup means for forming lock stitch seams in cooperation with the needle, the needle thread take-up which is synchronized with the needle and vertically moved and at least a pair of thread adjustment trays 38 and 39. Plural springs 44 for pressurizing the thread adjustment trays are also arranged. Besides, a release means 45 moves a pressurizing member 39 in one of the plural springs 44 with the rotation of an upper shaft 2 from the phase before the upper dead center of the needle thread take-up to the upper dead center and releases the pressurization of one spring. Thus, the tension of the thread is adjusted in accordance with the thickness of the thread so that the upper thread entangling position of the seam owing to the thickness of the sewing thread is prevented from being changed.
