CONSTITUTION:A visual field of an infrared-ray detecting element 2 is scanned by a scanning optical system 1. An output of the element 2 passes through a preamplifier 3 and sent to a human body detection processing part 45, and in the processing part 45, prescribed processing is performed for the output of the element 2, and person number information is outputted to an output part 6. Also, a human body detection output from the processing part 45 is sent to a scanning speed control part 7, and controls a driving part 1a of the scanning optical system 1. That is, when the human body detection output does not exist, the scan is executed by increasing a speed of the driving part 1a, and when the human body detection output is obtained, the speed is decreased. In such a way, a detecting device having quick responsiveness for detecting the human body, and also, high output sensitivity of person number information after the detection is obtained.
