Abstract

PURPOSE: To inexpensively produce a surface coated metal having desired characteristics by coating the surface of a metal stock with the powder of a metal of the other kind by a hot isostatic press of a high gaseous pressure at the solidus line temp. thereof or below to form the coating layer, then subjecting the metal stock to hot working and drawing.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the metal stock is coated with the powder of the metal of the other kind by the hot isostatic press which loads ≥300kg/cm2 gaseous pressure at the solidus line temp. of this other metal to form the coating layer thereon. The above-mentioned coating layer is formed on both faces of the metal stock. The metal stock is adequately held for 0.5W10h at 1,050W1,240°C, 0.5W10h at 1,050W1,240°C and 0.5W10h at 600W900°C respectively by the hot isostatic press if the above-mentioned metal of the other kind is, for example, an Ni-base alloy, Co-base alloy and Ti-base alloy. After the above- mentioned coating layer is formed, the metal stock is subjected to a soaking treatment, soln. heat treatment, etc., at need, then to the hot working and drawing. The surface coated metal provided with the characteristics such as resistance to corrosion, high-temp. corrosion, oxidation, wear, etc., on the surface of the base metal is obtd.
