CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording base film is formed of the polyimide copolymer essentially consisting of the repeating units expressed by the formulas I and II. In the formulas, R1 is a tetravalent arom. group having a coupler on the carbon atom. forming an arom. ring and in the formula II, R2 is a hydrogen atom. or monovalent substituent. Such repeating units are made to exist at >=50mol.% and <=90mol.% in the entire repeating unit. The base film material having the heat resistance, the high strength, the high modulus of elasticity and the excellent dimensional stability is thereby obtd.
