Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten cleaning time by providing an ink solvent ejection means and an air flow deflector to an ink jet head using an air flow. CONSTITUTION:When an ink jet head 1 needs to be cleaned, recording is suspended and a carriage 2 is moved to a position deviated from a platen 4 which winds recording paper 5 around it, that is, the position of a jet nozzle 7 for ink solvent. The jet nozzle 7 for ink solvent is continuous to a tank 6 containing the ink solvent 9, and air pressure is applied to the tank 6. The ink solvent 9 is sprayed to the front of the ink jet head 1 from a jet nozzle 7 for ink solvent, so that a mixture of ink mist, paper, etc., which accumulates on the front of the ink jet head 1 is dissolved, isolated and the majority of it is allowed to fall on a tray 10 below. After this, the carriage 2 is caused to move to the front of an air flow deflector 8. The air flow coming out of an air jet nozzle of the ink jet head 1 hits the air flow deflector 8 and then is discharged toward the periphery passing through a clearance formed by the ink jet head 1 and the air flow deflector.
