Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high strength Li.Al alloy negative electrode for a secondary battery which is workable to a thin plate and can obtain high energy density by using the alloy contg. Al and Li as main components and in which the componental amounts of Li and Cu are specified. CONSTITUTION:The titled electrode suitable for obtd. the high energy density and high strength is obtd. by forming it with the alloy consisting of Al and Li as main components and in which the componental amounts of said Li and Cu are regulated to, by weight, 3-20% Li and 0.25-6% Cu for the total amt. of said alloy. The thickness of said alloy electrode is regulated to 10-500mum to obtain the high energy density. Cu in the alloy is solid soluted into Al to strengthen the Al componental phase and prevents the lowering of the strength of a battery even if much Li in the electrode escapes at the time of electric discharging of the secondary battery. Said alloy negative electrode of the thin plate is preferably formed by cooling and solidifying the alloy molten metal having the prescribed compsn. at >=10<2>k/sec cooling ratio to fine the crystal grains, thereby making it easy to work.
