Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a prepreg sheet for production of fiber reinforced metal having no unevenness of strength by interposing heat resistant fine grains, whisker and short fibers into inorganic fibers for reinforcing and thermal spraying the fine grains of matrix metal thereon. CONSTITUTION:The bundle of the reinforcing fibers such as carbon fibers, silicon carbide fibers, alumina fibers and polymetallo carbosilane fibers is immersed into the suspension contg. the fine grains having <10mum average grain size of the carbide ceramics such as B4C and SiC, nitride ceramics such as Si3N4, TiN and BN and oxide ceramics such as Al2O3, SiO2, MgO and mullite, or the whisker having 0.1-2mum average diameter and 10-100mum average length or the short fibers having 1-30mum average diameter and <5mm average length. Said fibers are interposed into the openings of the fibers and are dried. After that, the metallic grains of the matrix metal of Al, Ti, Fe, Cu, Mo, W, Ni or the alloys thereamong having 5-100mum diameter are thermal sprayed on said fibers. By this method, the fiber reinforced metallic prepreg sheet having no unevenness of strength is produced.
