Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the titled equipment and to attain highly efficient repetition by detecting an optical signal, amplifying the signal and transmitting the amplified signal to an optical transmission line in the succeeding stage. CONSTITUTION:A signal source 1 supplies a transmission signal of a prescribed bit rate, e.g. 1Gb/s randum pulse signal, to an optical transmitter 2. The transmitter 2 directly modulates a semiconductor laser by the transmitted signal and sends its signal light to an optical fiber 3. In case of transmitting the signal light from the optical fiber 3 to an optical fiber 5 or from the optical fiber 5 to an optical fiber 7, an optical signal passed through an optical transmission line is detected by proves 9-11 for detecting transmitted signal light levels from an exciting source to an optical amplifier constituted of semiconductor laser amplifiers 4, 6, 8 and amplified and the amplified signal is transmitted to the succeeding stage.
