Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity, electric chargeability, and potential stability by incorporating a specified phthalocyanine compound as an organic carrier generating material in a carrier generating layer constituting a photoconductive layer. CONSTITUTION:The carrier generating layer 2 contains titanyl phthalocyanine having principal peaks at Bragg angles 2theta of 9.5+ or -0.2 deg.C, 0.7+ or -0.2 deg.C, 11.7+ or -0.2 deg.C, 15.0+ or -0.2 deg.C, 23.5+ or -0.2 deg.C, 24.1+ or -0.2 deg.C, and 27.3+ or -0.2 deg.C in the case of using the CuKalpha characteristic X-ray of 1.541Angstrom wavelength. The photosensitive layer 4 is obtained by laminating the carrier generating layer 2 and a carrier transfer layer 3. This titanyl phthalocyanine has a crystal form quite different from the alpha-type titanyl phthalocyanine, thus permitting sensitivity, potential stability, and chargeability to be enhanced.
