Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material having sufficient color forming sensitivity, imparting sufficient developed color density and having high background whiteness, by using a specific carbonic ester compound in a thermal recording material utilizing the color forming reaction between a leuco dye and a coupler thereof as an auxiliary component. CONSTITUTION:A carbonic ester compound represented by formula [I ] or [II] (wherein R is an alkyl group or an aryl group, W, X, Y and Z are an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or a halogen atom and k, l, m and n are respectively an integer of 0-3) is used in a thermal recording material utilizing the color forming reaction of a leuco dye and a coupler as an auxiliary component for enhancing sensitivity. This carbonic ester compound has high capacity of melting the coupler and leuco dye used within a wide range at the time of heating and, by regulating the m.p. of the carbonic ester compound to be used, the thermal recording material having arbitrary sensitivity can be obtained. Since the thermal recording material is enhanced in sensitivity, said recording material is suitable for high speed recording and has high practicality because of background whiteness.
