Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove a harmful component in gas with small pressure drop and at high space velocity of the gas by allowing the gas contg. the harmful component to contact with a honeycomb molded body consisting of >=50wt.% compd. of a metal such as Cu, Zn, etc., and having >=55% void. CONSTITUTION:A uniform mixture consisting of >=50wt.% compd. of metal selected from Cu, Zn, Fe, Si, P, Mn and Al and about 5-50wt.% binder such as SiO2, Al2O3, etc., is molded to a honeycomb body having >=55% void and >=70% cells per 1 in<2>. The molded body is then allowed to contact with gas contg. hydride or halide, etc., of As, B, P, Si, Sn, Se, W, Ge, such as arsine, diborane, etc. By this method, harmful components of the gas are removed with small pressure drop and at high space velocity of the gas. Moreover, the apparatus is usable without no problem whether it is laid horizontally or obliquely. The honeycomb molded body may be installed in a pipeline.
