Abstract
PURPOSE:To carry out flock formation in good condition always by controlling the amt. of a flocculant to be poured into a flocculating apparatus basing on a density of the flock to be obtd. by utilizing a picture processing method, by setting variable target value for controlling the particle size of the flock depending on the turbidity of water to be treated. CONSTITUTION:In a process for controlling the amt. of flocculant to be poured into a flocculating tank by measuring the turbidity of the liquid charged to the tank, discriminating characteristic data of the flock by carrying out picture processing of picked up image of the flock, and judging the condition of flocculation and the shape of the flock from a logarithmic mean diameter of the flock basing on the characteristic data, the amt. of the flocculant to be poured is controlled so as to elevate a target value of said logarithmic mean diameter when the measured turbidity is high. By this method, the turbidity of treated water at the outlet of a sedimentation pond is held stably at below a specified value because the flock formation can be carried out always in good condition independently of the turbidity of raw water.
