Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain stable recording/reproducing operation by detecting a track position error on a recording medium between at least two spots out of plural ones, rotating an optical system in a face approximately parallel with the recording medium and allowing the spots to follow tracks. CONSTITUTION:Plural reflected light beams 20d-20f from the recording medium 27 are condensed by a lens 28 and spatially separated by a light separating element 13 arranged on the condensed point. Reflected beam 20d, 20f for a servo or a servo/pit signal detection are made incident upon detecting systems 15, 16. A track error signal obtained from the detecting system 15 drives an actuator 25 and a beam spot 30a of the radiated light 20a is allowed to follow the track 30 of the recording medium 27. An optical head driving part 101 rotates an optical head 10 within a face parallel with the surface of the recording medium 27 so that the offset value of a track error signal to to zero as sure as possible. Consequently, all the beam spots 30a-30c can be allowed to accurately follow the tracks.
