Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect a contained article against damage by comparing a resistance set by a variable resistor for setting the inner temperature with a preset value when the resistance of a temperature detecting element deviates from a specified range and making a decision whether cooling operation is continued or not. CONSTITUTION: A circuit for comparing the output from an inner temperature detecting element 1 with a preset range and a selection circuit 26 for comparing an adjustable set value with a preset value are provided. When a decision is made that the resistance detected by the element 1 deviates from the specified range based on the output from the circuit 23, cooling operation is sustained forcibly or stopped based on the output from the circuit 26. When the element 1 is open-circuited or short-circuited, the resistance deviates from the specified range and the fact is detected by the circuit 23. Cooling operation is then sustained forcibly or stopped based on the output from the circuit 26 thus protecting articles stored in a refrigerator against damage due to melting or solidification.
