Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a slow electron beam light emitting display element which does not require a vacuum condition and a high degree of alignment technique by laminating a slow electron beam source and phosphor in tight contact with each other. CONSTITUTION: The thin film of the phosphor is formed on the electrode of a plane electron releasing element having a MIM (metal/insulator/metal) structure. Namely, the surface of a substrate 24 is provided with a light emitting layer 11 consisting of the phosphor thin film, a pair of electrodes (upper electrode 14 and lower electrode 12) thereon and an insulating layer 23 consisting of an org. thin film arranged between these electrodes 14 and 12. The high- energy electrons transmitted through the electrodes of the MIM electron releasing element is directly implanted into the phosphor, by which the phosphor is excited to emit light. As a result, the light emission in the atm. is made possible and since the structure is simple, the stage of element formation is simplified and the stable plane type light emitting display element is obtd.
