Abstract

PURPOSE:To extremely easily obtain an olefinic hydrocarbon essentially free from organic peroxide, suppressing the hydrogenation of olefin, by hydrogenating an olefinic hydrocarbon in liquid phase in the presence of a platinumsupporting catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Organic peroxides slightly existing in an olefinic hydrocarbon are removed without causing hydrogenation of olefin, by hydrogenating an olefinic hydrocarbon (olefins having carbonhydrogen bond at allyl site and having carbon-carbon double bond which does not form a conjugation with other double bond) in the presence of a platinum-supporting catalyst in liquid phase preferably at 50-150 deg.C under a hydrogen pressure of 1-10kg/cm<2>. The olefinic hydrocarbon is useful as a synthetic intermediate for various alcohols.
