Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain excellent easy foldability and dimensional stability by a method wherein film, which is made of polyethylene terephthalate copolymer and has a yield point and the difference between mean refractive indices in unstretched state and in biaxially stretched state of which is set to lie within the specified range. CONSTITUTION:The easily foldable polyester film concerned is a biaxially stretched film, which is made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) copolymer and has a yield point in a stress-strain curve and satisfies the following relationship: 0.003<=N1-N0<=0.021, in which N0 denotes the mean refractive index of the unstretched film made of said copolymer and N1 denotes the mean refractive index of the biaxially stretched film made of said copolymer. If the difference between the refractive indices is smaller than 0.003, the orientation of the resultant film is not enough, resulting in being apt to fall behind in strength and heat resistance. On the other hand, if said difference is larger than 0.021, nearly no improvement in the easy foldability of film is obtained an unfavorable film results. Further, as the PET copolymer, copolymer, the crystallization of which is comparatively difficult, such as isophthalic acid copolymer, is apt to show higher easy moldability when processed in a biaxially stretched film.
