Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high resolving power and high contrast ratio by superposing liquid crystal display panels in such a manner that the respective electrodes overlap perfectly on each other in the directions of optical axes and driving the respective panels simultaneously by the same driving signal. CONSTITUTION:The plural TN type liquid crystal display panels having the same shape are superposed on each other in such a manner that the respective corresponding electrodes overlap perfectly on each other in the direction of the optical axis. For example, 3 sheets of polarizing plates 1 are disposed with the axes of polarization with each other. The TN type liquid crystal layers 3 have the optical rotary power to rotate 90 deg. the plane of polarization of the polarizing light oscillating in the axis of polarization directions of the polarizing plates 1. The optical rotatory power of the TN type liquid crystal layers 3 is lost when a voltage is impressed in the optical axis direction to the TN type liquid crystal layers 3 by using transparent electrodes 5. Namely, this panel is constituted by superposing two sheets of the normally black liquid crystal display panels through which the light passes when the voltage is impressed. These panels are simultaneously driven by the same driving signal. The liquid crystal display panel having the high contrast and high resolving power is thereby obtd.
