Description
本考案は、側弁機構を改良した側弁式エンジン
に関するものである。

従来、側弁式エンジンとして実公昭52−34495
号公報に記載されたものが知られている。この側
弁式エンジンは、カム軸に設けたカムにより直線
往復動するバルブステムの先端にピストン形弁体
を設けた吸、排気弁を備え、燃焼室のシリンダ側
部底面に前記弁体が嵌合するシリンダ形弁座を設
けていたので、前記燃焼室がピストンの真上部か
ら前記弁座に延びており、その容積が大きいため
に、高い圧縮比が得られず、かつエンジンが比較
的大型になるという問題があつた。
また、従来、実開昭49−105707号公報に記載さ
れた側弁式エンジンなど、エンジンの出力軸によ
つて回転する回転弁板を介し燃焼室と吸、排気ポ
ートとを連通させたものも知られており、これは
前者の実公昭52−34495号公報に記載されたもの
に比べ、燃焼室の容積を小さくして高い圧縮比を
得ることが可能であるが、回転弁板によつて吸、
排気ポートを開閉制御しているため、通常の側弁
式エンジンと著しく構造が相違し、従来の生産設
備を用いることができず、その設備および製作上
に問題が多かつた。
本考案は、前述した事情に鑑みてなされたもの
で、従来の生産設備を大幅に改変することなく、
容易に製作できるものでありながら、燃焼室の容
積が小さく高い圧縮比が得られ、しかも小型で構
造も簡単な側弁式エンジンを提供することを目的
とするものである。

内のピストン2一側部と対向する部分に形成され
た凹部とシリンダ1頂面とで囲まれた内部に燃焼
室4が形成されている。燃焼室4の一側面に開口
する吸、排気ポート5,6がシリンダヘツド3の
一側部からシリンダ1内に延び、これの一側上部
にそれぞれ開口されている。前記ピストン2とコ
ンロツド7で連結されたクランク軸8と平行に、
クランク軸8から駆動力が伝達されるカム軸9に
複数のカム10が嵌着され、これらのカム10に
後述する吸、排気弁11,12のバルブステム1
1a,12aがカムフオロア13を介してそれぞ
れ支持されている。前記吸、排気弁11,12の
バルブステム11a,12aは、バルブガイド1
4を介してシリンダ1にピストン2の軸方向とほ
ぼ平行に直線往復動可能に支持され、バルブステ
ム11a,12aの先端には長方形の板状弁体1
1b,12bがそれぞれ固着されている。吸、排
気弁11,12の板状弁体11b,12bは、燃
焼室4一側の可及的にピストン2外周に近い位置
に配設され、板状弁体11b,12bが摺動可能
に嵌合する凹部15,16がシリンダ1側、シリ
ンダヘツド3にそれぞれ形成され、前記バルブス
テム11a,12aは弁ばね17によりカムフオ
ロア13を介して常にカム10に圧接されてい
る。なお、図中18は燃焼室4に設けた点火栓、
19はシリンダ1とシリンダヘツド3との間に介
在させたガスケツトである。
以上のように構成された実施例の側弁式単気筒
エンジンは、通常の4サイクルエンジンと同様に
作動して、ピストン2が各行程を行ない、これに
伴うクランク軸8の回転により、カム軸9が回転
し、カム10によりカムフオロア13を介し吸、
排気弁11,12が直線往復動することにより、
これらの板状弁体11b,12bが適時に開閉し
て燃焼室4と吸、排気ポート5,6とを連通、遮
断し、吸、排気を行なう。

来のピストン形弁体を有するもの、回転弁板を有
するものに比べて構成が簡単で加工も容易である
