Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively use an empty slot by inserting a separately prepared photoconductor through the empty slot, from which a photoconductor is drawn out, to extend an optical fiber wiring network. CONSTITUTION:A sheath 3 is cut round and removed at a photoconductor branch point 7 by a knife or the like to expose a photoconductor 6 to be branched, and the sheath 3 of an optical cable 1 is cut round and removed in a position 8, from which the distance to the branch point 7 is at least equal to the length of a photoconductor connection work excess length part 6a, to cut the photoconductor 6 to be branched. The excess length part 6a is drawn out from the branch point 7 to the outside of the cable and is branched and is connected to a photoconductor 10 for local wiring by a connector 8. The second photoconductor 12 is inserted through an empty slot 5a, which is made empty when the photoconductor connection work excess length part 6a is drawn out of the cable, from one end to the other. The photoconductor is effectively used for connection between a specific terminal machine and another terminal machine installed apart from said terminal machine or the like.

<Prior art> As a guide wire wiring method for a pull-out optical cable using a slot-type spacer, after the optical cable is laid, in order to branch the optical conductor for adding terminal equipment, etc., the optical conductor is separated by the extra length for connecting the optical conductor. In one embodiment, the cable sheath is removed and the light guide to be branched is cut, and at the branching point, the cable jacket is removed and the light guide to be branched is pulled out from the slot of the spacer, and the light guide for local wiring is removed. A method of connecting with a conductor is known.

FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of an optical cable according to an embodiment of the present invention. The spacer 2 of the optical cable 1 shown in this figure is made of a rod-shaped plastic material with a circular cross section, and its outer periphery is covered with a jacket 3 of a plastic tube. A reinforcing wire 4 is buried in the center of the spacer 2, and four slots 5 are formed in the outer periphery. A light guide 6 is removably housed in each slot 5.

In the optical cable 1 having the above configuration, a case where the optical conductor 6 is used in a branched manner will be described. In FIG. 1, first, at the light guide branching point 7 where the light guide is to be branched, the outer sheath 3 is removed by cutting with a knife or the like to expose the light guide 6 to be branched. Further, the outer jacket 3 of the optical cable 1 is sliced and removed at a position 8 away from the branch point 7 by at least the extra length 6a for the light guide connection work, and the light guide 6 to be branched is cut. Then, the extra length portion 6a is pulled out from the branching point 7 to the outside of the cable, and is branched and connected to the optical conductor 10 for local wiring by the connecting device 9.
