ウスの設置を要しないエレベータ装置が要求され
る。これに対して、ロープトラクシヨン式であつ
て駆動機が建物の下部に設けられたベースメント
形エレベータや、油圧ジヤツキ式エレベータが設
けられている。しかし、前者はかごとつり合おも
りを結ぶロープの中間部が巻上機によつて駆動さ
れるためエレベータ昇降路の頂部に多くの案内車
を設けてロープを下方へ導く等、ローピングが複
雑になり、また平面においても多くのスペースを
要し、エレベータが設置困難となつたり、高価な
ものとなつたりする不具合がある。また後者はつ
り合おもりがなく、かごと積載負荷の全部を上昇
させることになりエネルギー消費が多く、維持費
がかさむ不具合がある。

りの利用者数が少なく、運転時のかご2乗客は1
名又は2名であることが多く、またかご2が乗場
呼に応答して運転される場合はかご2に乗客がな
いことが多い。一方、小規模建物のエレベータで
あつても荷物の運搬を考慮して定員6名ないし9
名のものが設置される。これに対してロープトラ
クシヨン式のエレベータの場合にはつり合おもり
の重量が、かごに定格積載量の40〜50%が積載さ
れた値に設定されるため、無負荷に近い状態で運
転されることが多い小規模建物用エレベータでは
つり合おもり6の重量をかご2内負荷がないとき
に近い値に設定した方が消費エネルギーを少なく
することができる。なお、つり合おもり6をかご
2自重よりもやや軽量にすることによつて、駆動
機5のブレーキ(図示しない)を解放してかご2
を下降させることができるので、巻胴5a式駆動
機5の使用が可能となる。
