Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate scattering of toner at the time of image formation and to form a transfer image of good picture quality by using a layer formation member provided with a charge implantation electrode. CONSTITUTION:Toner 5 in a hopper 10 is supplied onto a toner carrier roll 1 by a toner conveyance roll 11. The toner on the carrier roll 1 is controlled into a thin toner layer with uniform thickness by the layer formation member with the charge implantation electrode by using the toner 5 and charged electrostatically and uniformly by a triboelectrification sequence between the formation member 16 and toner 5. The toner which is charged uniformly is given the opposite potential from a power source 15 to form a latent image on the toner layer according to an image signal. The toner layer on the toner carrier roll 1 where the toner latent image is formed is scattered over a transfer form 14 by a power source 13.

Referring to FIG. 6, the toner 5 made of monocomponent toner is supplied onto the toner carrier roll 1 in which the conductive cylinder 2 is provided with the dielectric layer 3, and the toner 5 made of monocomponent toner is transferred to the layer forming member that contacts the toner carrier roll 1. 4, the toner is made into a thin toner layer with a uniform thickness, and is tribo-electrified to a positive or negative value by a tribo-electrification series between the layer-forming member 4 and the toner 5. The toner carrier roll 1 thus carries thereon a thin layer of negatively charged toner. An ion current is supplied from the ion supply source 6 toward the uniformly charged toner thin layer in this way while applying a bias voltage by the bias electrode 7 between the ion supply source 6 and the conductive cylinder 2. The ion flow from the ion supply source is modulated according to the image signal by applying a voltage according to the image signal from the control power source 9 to the ion flow modulating means 8 consisting of a plurality of aperture elements,
The toner latent image is formed in accordance with an image signal by selectively colliding with this modulated toner thin layer.

The present invention provides a developer carrier carrying a developer thereon;
In a recording apparatus including a charging device that selectively charges the developer in accordance with an image signal and a transfer device that selectively transfers the developer on the developer carrier to a recording medium, the developer charging device is configured to charge the developer. having a layer forming member forming a thin layer;
The layer forming member is characterized in that a microelectrode is provided as a charge injection electrode for selectively charging the developer in accordance with an image signal. (Hereinafter, the layer forming member in the present invention will be referred to as "layer forming member with charge injection electrode") Function The function of the present invention will be explained with reference to FIG. FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the principle of electrostatic recording using the layer forming member with a charge injection electrode according to the present invention. The developer 5 is formed into a thin layer by a layer forming member 16 with a charge injection electrode, and charges corresponding to an image signal are injected by a microelectrode provided at the end of the layer. A latent image is thereby written onto the thin layer of developer material. The developer is then selectively transferred onto the recording medium in correspondence with the latent image.

This is a cross-sectional view at . In the layer forming member with charge injection electrodes, two rows of thin columnar electrodes 18 are arranged in the longitudinal direction in the insulating rubber plate 17 . This electrode 1
8 is insulated from 1 by an insulating rubber plate 17, and must have a withstand voltage of 100V or more! Kaname deru. This insulating rubber plate is an electric 1f! Contact electrodes 19, which have a width that allows them to come into contact with electrodes 18, are arranged in the longitudinal direction and are crimped onto a base material 20.

As the material for the columnar electrodes 18, it is preferable to use a conductive rubber made of silicone rubber in which carbon is dispersed, and which has the same abrasion resistance as the insulating rubber plate 17. This allows the insulating rubber plate to be damaged by friction with the developer. This can prevent either the columnar electrode 17 or the columnar electrode 18 from wearing out first and failing to function.

A back electrode 12 is provided at a distance of 200 μm from the toner carrier roll 1, and while a bias voltage of 900 V is applied between the two by a power source 13, the toner layer on which the toner latent image has been formed on the toner carrier roll 1 is transferred to the transfer paper. Make it fly above 14. In this case, if the toner carrier roll 1 side is positively biased, the toner is transferred to the transfer paper 14 and a positive image is formed.
