Various types of air filters have been used in the past, such as air purifying air filters that aim to prevent pathogenic infections in hospitals and other sanitary fields, and air filters that aim to prevent pathogenic infections caused by the diffusion of gas discharged from vacuum cleaners into rooms. Although the development of filters has progressed and it has become possible to remove quite fine dust, it has not yet reached the stage where it can sufficiently remove even the microscopic bacteria. An even bigger problem is that the dust accumulated on the surface of the air filter is a perfect place for bacteria to breed, and the microscopic bacteria that breed can pass through the air filter, and when the air passes through the air filter, it can be reversed. It causes air pollution. As a method to prevent the proliferation of bacteria in the dust on the surface of the filter, it has been considered to apply a disinfectant to the filter material, but this method has not been shown to be effective against the dust that is in contact with the filter. However, it has no antibacterial effect on accumulated dust that has not come into contact with the filter.
Furthermore, such filters have a major disadvantage in that their antibacterial properties do not last long, and their antibacterial effects are lost when the filters are washed.

The antibacterial air filter of the present invention sublimates the slightly water-soluble disinfectant 2,4,4'-trichloro 2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether, which is fixed to the fibers constituting the filter material, albeit in a very small amount.
Not only the part that is in contact with the fiber filter material, but also the surrounding area that is not in contact with the filter material exhibits antibacterial properties.

Although the bactericidal agent 2,4,4'-trichloro2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether used in this invention exhibits excellent sublimation antibacterial properties, it has almost no phytotoxicity to the human body, and surprisingly, it can be used with various fibers. If the fibers are treated with an appropriate method, the disinfectant will be adsorbed and fixed on the fibers, giving them permanent antibacterial properties.

The permanent antibacterial fibers used in this invention can be produced using, for example, an emulsion dispersion aqueous treatment solution containing the bactericidal agent 2,4,4'-trichloro2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether and a dispersant, using the pad cure method, the pad steam method, and the wet treatment method. It can be obtained by treating fibers using a heat treatment method or the like at a temperature of 50 to 150°C for a period of several tens of seconds to several tens of minutes.

If the amount of disinfectant used is less than 0.01% owf, sufficient permanent antibacterial properties will not be expressed, and even if 10% owf or more is applied, no further improvement in permanent antibacterial properties will be observed. On the other hand, it is desirable to use different dispersants depending on the type of fiber to improve the adsorption and adhesion of the disinfectant to the fibers. For polyester fibers, polypropylene fibers, etc., use a nonionic dispersant or an anionic dispersant. are preferably used, and cationic dispersants are preferably used for acrylic fibers, cellulose fibers, etc.

If the amount of dispersant used is too small, it will not only be difficult to uniformly emulsify and disperse the fungicide in the aqueous medium, but also difficult to impart sufficient permanent antibacterial properties to the fibers.
