トと、前記外筒もしくは内筒のいずれか一方の部
材に設けられて軸線方向へ延在する長孔および、
他方の部材に設けられて前記長孔内に嵌まり合う
掛合部材からなり、前記ステアリングコラムの伸
縮限位置を特定するとともに、前記外筒および内
筒間の相対回転を規制する伸縮ガイド構造とを具
えてなるテレスコピツク式ステアリング装置にお
いて、 前記長孔の、前記ステアリングコラムの縮み状
態にて前記掛合部材が位置する側の端部に、幅方
向寸法が前記掛合部材の前記幅方向の外部寸法よ
りも小さい狹隘部分を設け、前記ステアリングシ
ヤフトに衝撃力が加わつて前記ステアリングコラ
ムが圧縮された際に、前記衝撃力を、前記掛合部
材および前記狹隘部分の少なくとも一方の変形に
よつて吸収することを特徴とするテレスコピツク
