【発明の詳細な説明】 この発明は信号を磁気記録媒体の垂直方向、即
ち厚み方向に記録する、垂直磁化記録装置に関す
る。
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a perpendicular magnetization recording device that records signals in the perpendicular direction of a magnetic recording medium, that is, in the thickness direction.

従来の磁気記録方式は、リング形ヘツドを用
い、磁気記録媒体の面内方向の残留磁化を利用し
たものであつた。この方式では記録の高密度化と
ともに記録媒体内の減磁界が大きくなり、記録密
度に限界がある。このため磁気記録媒体の垂直方
向の残留磁化を利用する、垂直記録方式が提案さ
れた。この方式は、記録が高密度になるほど減磁
界が零に漸近するため、本質的に高密度記録に適
しており、実際に短波長記録特性が優れているこ
とが確認されている(応用磁気学会第1回研究会
資料)。垂直記録方向における磁気記録ヘツドと
して従来提案されている例を、第1図に示す。同
図aは記録媒体1に接触する高透磁率薄膜からな
る主磁極2を巻線3によつて直接励磁する、主磁
極励磁形ヘツドである。同図bは主磁極2の側面
に高透磁率部材4を設置して記録効率改善をはか
つた主磁極励磁形ヘツドである。同図cは記録媒
体1の裏面に高透磁率材料5を密着して置き、影
像効果等によつて記録感度の向上をはかつたもの
であり、影像形ヘツドと呼ばれる。同図dは記録
媒体1を挾んで主磁極2と対向して置かれた補助
磁極6に巻線3を施し、補助磁極6による磁界で
主磁極2を励磁する、補助磁極励磁形ヘツドであ
る。これらのヘツドを検討した結果現状において
は、補助磁極励磁形ヘツドが主磁極励磁形ヘツ
ド、影像形ヘツドに比べ、記録感度が優れている
ことが報告されている(電子通信学会技術報告
MR77―25、公開特許公報昭52−134706)。しか
し補助磁極励磁形ヘツドは、記録媒体を2つの磁
極で挾む構造であるため、例えば回転ヘツドやデ
イスク状記録媒体への応用が困難であるなど、構
造的に不便な点が多い。このことは影像形ヘツド
についても同様である。以上のように現状におい
ては、記録感度的にも構造的にも欠点がないヘツ
ドは発明されていない。従つてこのような欠点の
ないヘツド即ち記録感度の良い、主磁極励磁形ヘ
ツドの発明が望まれていた。

An example of a conventionally proposed magnetic recording head in the perpendicular recording direction is shown in FIG. Figure a shows a main pole excitation type head in which a main pole 2 made of a high magnetic permeability thin film in contact with a recording medium 1 is directly excited by a winding 3. Figure b shows a main pole excitation type head in which a high magnetic permeability member 4 is installed on the side surface of the main pole 2 to improve recording efficiency. Figure c shows a head in which a high magnetic permeability material 5 is placed in close contact with the back surface of the recording medium 1 to improve the recording sensitivity through an image effect or the like, and is called an image type head. Figure d shows an auxiliary magnetic pole excitation type head in which a winding 3 is applied to an auxiliary magnetic pole 6 placed opposite the main magnetic pole 2 with the recording medium 1 in between, and the main magnetic pole 2 is excited by the magnetic field of the auxiliary magnetic pole 6. . As a result of studying these heads, it has been reported that the auxiliary magnetic pole excitation type head currently has superior recording sensitivity compared to the main magnetic pole excitation type head and the image type head (Technical Report of Institute of Electronics and Communication Engineers).

以下この発明を図面を参照して詳細に説明す
る。第2図はこの発明の一実施例を示すものであ
る。図から明らかのようにこの実施例に係る装置
は、磁気テープ1に先端部が対向するようにして
設けた高透磁率薄膜よりなる主磁極2の内側に、
高透磁率部材4をその先端面を主磁極2の先端面
からずらして設け、コイル3を巻回するようにし
たものであり、かつ主磁極2とその両側に設けた
高透磁率部材4の合計の厚みTと主磁極2と高透
磁率部材4との先端面のずれの量Dの割合D/T
を1/2乃至1に設定したものである。このような
構成によると、ヘツドの記録感度を最も大きくす
ることができる。すなわち第3図は上記Tを一定
としてDを変化させたときの主磁極先端から発生
する記録磁界H0の変化を示したもので、記録磁
界H0はD/Tが1/2乃至1のとき最大となること
を示している。このようにこの発明は主磁極とそ
の側面に設けた高透磁率部材の合計の厚みTと、
主磁極と高透磁率部材の先端面のずれの量Dに着
目し、それらの関係がD/T=1/2〜1のとき記
録感度が最大となることを実験的に見い出して成
されたものである。
