Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent abnormal heating of thermal printer due to malfunction of control circuit, by detecting temperature of thermal head and interrupting drive power source for the thermal head upon abnormal temperature rise. CONSTITUTION:Resistors R1-R3 and transistors 7, 8 constitute a comparison circuit: when the temperature of thermal head is low and VTH is higher than Va, the transistor 7 turns OFF and collector voltage goes to 0V. When the temperature of the thermal head rises and VTH lowers below Va, the transistor 8 turns OFF while the transistor 7 turns ON and the collector voltage of the transistor 7 goes to high level. Temperature Ta of a thermister 4 when output 9 from the comparison circuit varies from 0V to high level is set to upper limit of rated operating temperature of the thermal head. When the temperature of the thermistor 4 rises over Ta, collector of the transistor 7 outputs a high level so as to stop output from a power source circuit 1 thus protecting the thermal head 3 from entering into abnormal state having a temperature higher than Ta and protecting the power source circuit 1 from breakdown or burning due to abnormal heating.

A comparator circuit determines whether the output of the temperature sensing element attached to the boolean head is above or below a predetermined temperature. Temperature amortization by this comparison circuit allows for more stable temperature ejection without external noise or malfunctions caused by Vζ such as instantaneous stop '1' than a temperature detection method operated by software such as a microcomputer.
