Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition resistant to get moldy surface even by leaving over a long period in an atmosphere in which mold is liable to grow, and suitable as a sheath material for wire cable, etc., by compounding a silane coupling agent and a mildew-proofing agent to a kneaded product of a polymer and a metal hydrate. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be produced by compounding (A) a kneaded mixture produced by kneading (i) a polymer composed of one or more components selected from PE, PP, ethylene-propylene copolymer, ethylene-ethylene acrylate copolymer and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and (ii) one or more kinds of components selected from magnesium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide with (B) 0.2-1.0wt.% of a silane coupling agent composed of lower alkyl-alkenyl-alkoxysilanes or alkynyl- alkoxysilanes and (C) 0.1-1.0wt.% of a mildew-proofing agent composed of thiabendazole, 10,10'-oxybisphenoxyarsine, etc.

被覆材に適用した場合、カビの繁殖し易い高湿度の雰囲
気中に放置することにより、その表面にカビが発生し、
電線ケーブル等の製品の特性を著しく劣化せしめるもの
であった。この対策として組成物の表面に10.10’
 −オキシビスフェノキシアルシン(OBPA)等の防
黴剤を塗布するとか或は該組成物中に防黴剤を練込んで
いるものであった。然し前者の如く防黴剤を塗布した場
合、期間の経過に伴って防黴剤が剥離するおそれがあり
また後者の如く防黴剤を練り込む場合、その効果を発揮
せしめるには大量の防黴剤を必要とするため経済的に不
利であると共に該組成物の特性に悪影響を及ぼすもので
あった。
