Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title base which gives easily a gel-like aromatic by adding essential ingredients, said aromatic causing no separation of water even when a freeze-thaw cycle is repeated, by blending an aq. gel contg. carrageenan as a gelling agent and locust bean gum as a thickener with a nonionic cellulose derivative. CONSTITUTION:An aq. gel (A) formed by using 1-6wt.% carrageenan (A) as a gelling agent and 0.5-3wt.% locust bean gum as a thickener is blended with 0.01-30wt.% nonionic cellulose derivative (B) having an MW of 10,000-350,000, such as hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, to obtain the title base. An essential oil perfume (e.g., lemon oil), an emulsifying agent such as a sorbitan fatty acid ester (ethylene oxide adduct), etc. are added thereto and the mixture is molded into a desired shape to obtain a gel-like aromatic.

However, this aqueous gel using carrageenan as a gelling agent causes a syneresis phenomenon when the temperature changes, for example, when the temperature is returned to room temperature after freezing, resulting in practical problems such as deterioration of appearance and decrease in gel strength. It has the disadvantage of causing changes in physical properties.

To overcome these drawbacks, it has been proposed to add natural gums such as locust bean gum and xanthan gum, semi-synthetic or synthetic polymeric substances such as carboxymethyl cellulose and polyvinyl alcohol as thickeners. However, (Japanese Patent Publication No. 58-34142, Japanese Patent Publication No. 57-15902), a sufficiently satisfactory effect has not been obtained.

As a result of extensive research to develop an aqueous gel that does not cause syneresis due to temperature changes, the present inventors have developed carrageenan as a gelling agent and locust as a thickener. It was discovered that the objective could be achieved by blending a nonionic cellulose derivative into an aqueous gel prepared using bean gum, and based on this knowledge, the present invention was accomplished.

Effects of the Invention The gel-like base of the present invention can be easily made into a gel-like fragrance by adding necessary ingredients to it, and the gel-like fragrance thus obtained can be repeatedly frozen and melted. Since it does not cause water separation, it has the advantage that it can be used without any problems even in cold regions and low-temperature greenhouses.
