Protectors for baseball referees, etc. are made by covering a cushioning core material with a cover such as woven fabric, and the cushioning core material of this protector is made of elastic synthetic resin foam such as polyethylene resin foam. There are things that use the body. As an example, a front body and a rear body are formed separately, and a honeycomb-shaped protrusion is provided on one half of the left and right sides on the joining surface side of the front and rear bodies, and a half part with this protrusion and a half with the protrusion are formed. It has been proposed that the front and rear halves are brought into contact with each other and the front and rear halves are joined, thereby creating space inside and increasing the cushioning performance (Utility Model Application No. 164078/1983).

However, in the above case, the flat plate-like half portions having no protrusions on both the front and rear bodies are not reinforced in the form of ribs, and are more susceptible to deformation such as warping and are weaker than the half portions having protrusions. When joining the front and rear bodies, the protrusions on one of the left and right halves are only fitted at the peripheral edge of the other half without protrusions, resulting in poor joint strength and integrity between the two halves, and the ribs described above. There is also a risk that floating may occur in the center of the half portion that is not reinforced, making it impossible to obtain sufficient shape-retaining strength as a whole.

In view of the above, the present invention has excellent shock mitigation and absorption properties, has sufficient strength over the entire area of both the front and rear bodies, has excellent integrity, and has good shape retention, restorability, and durability. This was done in order to easily manufacture and provide the core material.

That is, the present invention consists of a front body and a rear body of the same shape made of resilient closed-cell synthetic resin foam joined face-to-face, and the front body and rear body each have a A projecting edge is provided that is in mutual contact with the peripheral edge on the joint surface side, and a rib having twice the height of the projecting edge is provided in a recess inside the projecting surface, and the ribs have the same shape when viewed from the joint surface side and both extend in the intersecting direction. The ribs of the front body and the ribs of the rear body intersect with each other with a cutout of 1/2 of the height of the rib, and are fitted into each other at the cutout. This is a characteristic feature.

In any of the above cases, the intersecting portions of the ribs 14 of the front body 10 and the ribs 24 of the rear body 20 are each formed with a cutout of 1/2 of the height of the rib, and they fit together at the cutouts 16 and 26. It is designed to allow
With this fitting, the front body 10 and the rear body 20 each have their respective ribs 14 and 24 in the recesses 13 of the other.
Alternatively, they are fitted into 23 and are joined and held face-to-face in a lattice-like combination. If necessary, the joints between the front and rear bodies 10, 20, for example, the upper parts 11a, 21a and the lower parts 11b, 2
Adhesive tape is pasted along the joint between 1b to reinforce it.

The synthetic resin foam that is the constituent material of the core material A above includes polyolefin resin foams such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and copolymers mainly composed of these, polyvinyl chloride resin foams, and copolymers of ethylene and styrene. Resin foams and other closed-cell, soft or semi-hard elastic synthetic resin foams are used, and among them, crosslinked polyolefin resin foams are particularly preferred. In other words, cross-linked polyolefin resin foams have better deformability and recovery properties than non-cross-linked ones, as well as superior toughness, durability, and safety. This makes it possible to increase the internal space, resulting in material savings and further weight reduction.

The protector 30 is constructed by wrapping the core material A having the above-mentioned structure with a cover 31 made of cloth or the like, which can be opened and closed at approximately the middle height position on the back side, as shown in FIGS. An upper part 33a and a lower part 33b of the cover 31 having the opening part 32,
The upper portions 11a, 21a and the lower portions 11b, 21b, which are separately configured, of the core material A are housed. The opening 32 of the cover 31 has an opening on the back side from the left front edge to the right front edge of the cover, and has fasteners 34a and 34b attached to the upper and lower edges of the opening so that it can be opened and closed. The fasteners 34a and 34b may be of a snap type or a velvet type, but in the figure, a slide type is used in which closing is performed evenly over the entire length. In addition, the upper part 11a of the core material A,
21a and lower parts 11b, 21b are formed in a shape that fits tightly into the upper part 33a and lower part 33b of the cover 31, and partial covers 35a and 35b made of the same cloth as the cover 31 are attached to the upper and lower opening side ends by adhesive means. The core material A
It is desirable to reduce the damage-preventing effect of the synthetic resin foam that is the material of the material. Furthermore, the partial bar 35a,
35b and the corresponding open end of the cover 31 are provided with engaging means 36a, 37a, 36b, 37b such as velvet fasteners that can engage with each other,
It is preferable to configure the core material A so that it does not pop out when the mouth portion 32 is opened.

In addition, the protector using the cushioning core material of the present invention is not limited to the above, but can be implemented in various ways depending on the type of competition and usage. In the case of a core material consisting of, this can be implemented by providing an opening for inserting the core material on the circumferential side of the cover.

As mentioned above, the cushioning core material A of the present invention is made by joining the front body 10 and the rear body 20 of synthetic resin foam in a face-to-face manner, and both the front and rear bodies 10, 20
In this case, the surrounding projecting edges 12 and 22 are in relative contact with each other, and the ribs 14 and 24 provided in the recesses 13 and 23 inside the projecting edges 12 and 22 are intersecting with each other and are in the other recess 13 or 23. Because there is a space between the ribs that are inserted into the recess and face the surface of the recess, this space and the characteristics of the material, that is, the elastic closed-cell synthetic resin foam, combine to provide excellent cushioning. Moreover, due to the thickness of the ribs 14 and 24, it is moderately strong against bending and compression, and is safe even with strong impact without fear of bottoming out. In particular, the ribs 14 of both bodies
and 24 have a notch 16 at the intersection thereof,
26, so that both the front and rear bodies 10, 20 are firmly connected and held together and have excellent integrity, and the mutual holding effect due to the above-mentioned fitting is also effective. Therefore, it is particularly strong against twisting and bending, does not cause partial lifting, and can exhibit extremely excellent shape retention and restoring properties as core material A. Moreover, by fitting the ribs 14 and 24 together, assembly and connection can be easily performed without requiring adhesive means or the like. Furthermore, since both the front and rear parts 10, 20 have the same shape, there is an advantage that they can be molded using the same mold.
