In a conventional liquid crystal display device, as shown in FIG. 1, a liquid crystal display panel 1 having an inorganic glass substrate is placed on a drive circuit substrate 2 via a conductive member 3, and thin electrical components such as an integrated circuit 4 are The display panel 1 was laminated under the display panel 1, and thick electrical components such as the crystal resonator 5 were mounted on the side of the display panel 1. This is because the liquid crystal display panel 1 having an inorganic glass substrate is thick, and if the thick electrical components 5 of the display panel 1 are stacked on top of each other, the liquid crystal display device becomes even thicker. However, even if it is mounted as described above, the module itself, including the frame, must be formed into a flat plate with a certain thickness, and when the liquid crystal display device is used in a wristwatch, etc., a case with thick peripheral edges and side walls is required. As a result, I couldn't help but notice that it looked thick.

The purpose of the present invention is to fabricate the substrate of a liquid crystal display panel in a substantially arcuate shape using a flexible polymer film instead of inorganic glass, and to place thick electrical components on the underside of the liquid crystal panel. The object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display device that has a module that is thick at the center and thin at the periphery, and which looks thin in terms of design.

1 is a liquid crystal display panel, in which flexible polymer films such as polyethylene terephthalate film, polybutylene terephthalate film, polyether sulfonate film, polycarbonate film, etc. are used as upper and lower substrates, and liquid crystal is sealed between the upper and lower substrates. At the same time, the electrodes of the upper and lower substrates are connected to a substrate 2 of a drive circuit via a conductive member 3, and various characters, symbols, figures, etc. are displayed on the liquid crystal based on signals from the drive circuit. Conductive member 3
The top surface is shaped like a mountain.
The display panel 1 is bent into an arched shape and attached to the upper surface of the conductive member 3. The lower surface of the conductive member 3 that faces the upper surface is in contact with the substrate 2 of the drive circuit, and the display panel 1 is placed on the substrate 2 of the drive circuit via the conductive member 3. In addition, the liquid crystal display panel 1
Polarizing plates or reflecting plates are installed on the upper and lower surfaces of the substrate as necessary. An integrated circuit 4 is stacked on the lower side of the liquid crystal display panel 1 in a gap formed between the substrate 2 and the conductive member 3 in accordance with the shape of the conductive member 3, and a crystal resonator 5 is further placed on top of the integrated circuit 4 in the longitudinal direction. The conductive member 3 and the conductive member 3 are stacked at right angles. Further, a chip component 6 is arranged next to the display panel 1. Although the liquid crystal display panel 1 is bent into a substantially arched shape as described above, the gap between the upper and lower substrates made of polymer films is maintained and constant in the following manner. That is, transparent synthetic resin beads of uniform particle size are used as a gap material and are dispersed almost evenly between the upper and lower substrates. An example of such synthetic resin beads is Micropearl (trade name of Sekisui Hui Chemical Co., Ltd., chemical name: styrene divinylbenzene). Examples of other gap materials include glass fibers crushed to a length of several tens of microns, silica gel powder, etc. By incorporating these gap materials between the upper and lower substrates, bending of the liquid crystal display panel is possible. Gap in machining can be secured.

As described above, in the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, liquid crystal is sealed between the upper and lower substrates of a flexible polymer film, bent into a substantially arched shape, and placed on the upper surface of the conductive member 3. Since the electrical components of the crystal oscillator 5 and the integrated circuit 4 are arranged between the quartz crystal resonator 5 and the integrated circuit 4, the module can be made thick at the center and thin at the periphery. When used for this purpose, it is possible to make the peripheral edge part thinner in the design of the case, resulting in an excellent device with an apparently thin design. If conventional inorganic glass is used instead of a flexible polymer film for liquid crystal panels, it is difficult to process curved surfaces and there is a risk of cracking or damage. Further, by using transparent materials for each component of the device of the present invention, it is possible to obtain a liquid crystal display device of a transmission type and a curved display.
