Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent water from dripping into a car room from a groove between two-point seals, in case of a two-point seal structural weather strip (WS), by installing a through-hole in the upper end of a door WS at a position corresponding to the terminal of a roof side WS right overhead. CONSTITUTION:A two-point structural roof side WS3 is of hollow form, and a peripheral edge of door glass 20 is made so as to come into contact with the roof side WS3 at the end face and two spots (a) and (b) of an end proximate point on the inner surface when the peripheral edge of the door glass 20 is forcibly pressed at door closing. The groove 5 closed by the door glass 20 is formed between these two points (a) and (b) of this roof side WS3, and this groove 5 is terminated at a lower end 30 of the roof side WS3, while a terminal 50 of the groove 5 is installed as being situated in an adhering part with an upper end 40 of a door WS4. In this case, a through hole 6 is formed in this upper end 40 of the door WS4 at a position corresponding to a spot just above the groove 5. And, the water accumulated in the groove 5 is made dischargeable to the outside from the through-hole 6 by way of the door inside.

Weather stripping 3 is a means to improve sealing performance.
Measures have been taken to wrap the periphery of the glass 20 or to increase the pressure, but a more effective method is to wrap the periphery of the glass 20 and the weather strip 3 as shown in FIGS. 2 to 4. A so-called two-point seal has come to be used, in which the two are brought into contact at two points a and b for a double seal.

[Operation and Effect] Water that has entered the groove 5 and flows down enters the inside of the door 2 through the through hole 6 and is expelled to the outside from the lower end of the door 2. Therefore, water does not accumulate at the end of the groove 5, and water does not fall from the groove 5 into the passenger compartment when the door is opened.

[Embodiment] In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 6, the roof side weather strip 3 is made of sponge rubber and extends from the front door opening from the front pillar 11 to the center pillar 12, and from the center pillar 12 to the quarter pillar 13. It is attached by a retainer 14 along the rear door opening leading to. The roof side weather strip 3 is hollow, and the periphery of the door glass 20 is pressed against it when the door is closed. At this time, the periphery of the door glass 20 comes into contact with the roof side weather strip 3 at two points a and b, the end surface and the inner surface near the end surface, forming a two-point seal. A door 5 closed by a door glass 20 is formed between the two points a and b. This groove 5 ends at the lower end 30 of the roof side weather strip 3. The main body of the weather strip 3 is an extrusion molded body, and the lower end 30 is connected to the main body by molding. The lower end portion 30 has a different cross section from the main body portion.

As shown in FIG. 5, the upper end portion 40 of the door weather strip 4 has a U-shaped cross section, through which the door glass that moves up and down between the door outer panel 21 and the inner panel 22 is inserted. The upper end portion 40 comes into close contact with the surface of the roof side weather strip 3 where the groove 5 is formed when the door is closed. The thickness of the upper end portion 40 is tapered toward the upper edge.

However, the water that has flowed down is led into the door 2 through the through hole 6 of the door weather strip 4. Then, it falls between the inner and outer panels 21 and 22 of the door, is removed from the vehicle through a hole (path shown) formed in the lower edge of the door, and does not accumulate at the end 50 of the groove 5. Therefore, even when the door is opened and the upper end portion 40 of the door weather strip is separated from the groove 5, the accumulated water will not fall into the vehicle interior as in the conventional case.
