Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the dozy or inattentive driving state and allow the safety driving by converting the light signal of a light receiver monitoring eyes into an electric signal, inputting it to a processing device together with the speed of a vehicle, and identifying the direction, visual field, and opening degree of the eyes.
CONSTITUTION: A light collecting and receiving unit 1 collects the light with a lens and has a light receiving element such as a CCD or a photo-diode, this output is converted into an electric signal by a block 2, it is then converted into a digital signal by an AD converter 3 and inputted to a computer 4. Next, a judging unit judges whether eyes are facing forward correctly, and the drift of the eyes from the forward normal center line is identified depending on whether the eye direction is apart from the forward normal center line by a fixed value or more. The car speed and the visual field are recognized and whether they are fixed values or more is judged, then whether the opening degree of eyes is a fixed value or more is judged. If at least one of three recognitions and judgments deviates from the normal range and the deviation time is a fixed value or longer, then warning and display are given. If the time of the warning and display exceeds a fixed period, a brake is slowly applied automatically for deceleration.
