[Detailed description of the invention] This invention is a gas laser tube, especially an internal mirror type.
This invention relates to the structure of a protrusion (folded) that surrounds the tip of a laser capillary tube within the envelope of a He--Ne gas laser tube.

In recent years, He--Ne gas laser tubes have been used for a wide variety of applications. In particular, a large amount of demand is expected as a light source for point-of-sales (POS), video record players (VLP), etc., and there is a need for small and compact devices. For this reason, a coaxial structure centered on a thin tube that becomes the active region of the laser and generates laser plasma is used. Particularly in recent years, there has been an increasing demand for small-sized laser tubes with high output. In order to increase the output without changing the length of the laser tube (resonator length), it is necessary to make the tube diameter as thin as possible and make it longer. However, if the tube diameter is simply made narrower and longer, there is a risk that the current density of the cathode will increase locally during laser discharge, leading to faster deterioration of the cathode and shortening its lifespan. Therefore, in order to prevent this, it is desirable to make the distance from the end face of the laser tube to both end faces of the cathode as equal as possible.

Conventionally, as shown in FIG. 1, the tip 8 of the laser tube 2 in the envelope 1 is surrounded by a protrusion (folded) 7 coaxial with the laser tube 2, and the anode 4 and cathode 5 are connected to each other.
A high voltage is applied between them to generate a laser discharge within the envelope 1, and an optical resonator is constructed with the pair of mirrors 3 and 6 provided at both ends of the laser tube in FIG. The structure was such that the current density at the cathode was smoothed when the current density oscillated.
However, conversely, the impedance between the anode 4 and the cathode 5 increases due to the influence of this protrusion (folding) 7, resulting in disadvantages such as unstable discharge and an increase in discharge sustaining current.

The present invention eliminates these drawbacks by providing a taper to the protrusion (folded) 7 as shown in FIG. 2, thereby providing a small, lightweight, and high-output He--Ne gas laser tube.

If the protrusion (folded) 7 is tapered as in the present invention, the impedance between the anode 4 and the cathode 5 will be reduced, stabilizing the laser discharge, and not only reducing the discharge sustaining current but also reducing the cathode current during laser discharge. Since the density can also be smoothed, a long-life, highly reliable laser tube can be easily produced.
